What is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-Factor Authentication also known as 2-FA is an extra layer of security that requires not only a password and username but also something that only, and only, that user has on them, i.e. a piece of information only they should know or have immediately to hand - such as a physical token. Using a username and password together with a piece of information that only the user knows makes it harder for potential intruders to gain access. At ICBS SYSTEMS, we use 2-FA with a temporary token generated with TOTP enabled app, like Google Authenticator.
How to activate it?
In order to use the 2-FA at ICBS SYSTEMS, you need any TOTP enabled application like Google Authenticator. Once you have this or similar application installed, you must enter in your profile settings and click on "2-FA and web access". There you must click on "ACTIVATE" button in section "Two-Factor Authentication". Afterwards, you need to scan the QR code with your TOTP app or to enter the 2-FA Secret in order to use our 2-FA service. Once you scan the QR code or enter the secret an account will be created by the app and every 30 seconds a new 2-FA token will be generated, which you will use to login alongside your email address and password.
Note: To activate the 2-FA you will have to fill in your contact data, which we will need, if you ever lose your device and or the Recovery Key and are unable to log in to your account.
How to deactivate it?
To deactivate the Two-Factor Authentication, you must enter in your profile settings and click on "2-FA and web access". There, in section "Two-Factor Authentication" you have to enter your password and the current token from your device. Afterwards, click on "DEACTIVATE".
Lost device deactivation
During the activation process, you will see a 2-FA Recovery Key. It is mandatory to write down this key, as it is needed in case you lose your device and are unable to generate a new 2-FA token. With it you will be able to deactivate the 2-FA feature and log in with your email address and password only.
